I was recently looking over Gamestop.com's price list for NES games, and I was shocked. They are extremely high! These prices are so high, it is almost as if they don't want people to buy their games. I was finding that many NES games were considerably higher than games for the Playstation! Gamestop is charging more for 10 year old 8-bit NES games than for cd based games!

Would you pay $2 for a game this common?

Here are examples of inflated prices. Take Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt This game is as common as it comes. Everyone on Earth has it. When Gamestop stores were Funcolands, you could get a copy of Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt for around a quarter. Sometimes for as low as a dime. Now two years later, if you want to buy the same game at what is basically the same store, they are going to charge you $2! Two bucks for SMB/Duckhunt is a fucking rip-off! Okay, so you may be thinkgin "hey, who gives a shit? It's only $2." Well look at it this way. They raised the price by 800%. Gamestop now charges $60 for a used NES system. A couple years ago you could get a NES system, with a free subscription to Game Informer for only $30. How do you feel about that?

It seems to me that the best part about Gamestop(Funcoland) is gone. Even though they had rude employees, and really strict rules, I kept coming back because I could arrive with $20 and walk out with 30 games. Where most games used to cost anywhere from $1.00 to $3.00, now you're lucky to get one under $7.00. This makes buying in bulk very expensive.

An increase in price like this would normally mean that either classic gaming has boomed and demand for NES games has skyrocketed so Gamestop can get away charging bullshit prices because people will still buy it, or Gamestop is losing alot of money and has had to raise their prices to try and survive. I don't know what the story is. But, I do know I will never shop at Gamestop.com again.
