Stephen Krokowski's

List of the Top 5 Hardest NES Games

5. Super Mario Bros 2 (Japanese)

They made that game too hard too early. There are even parts of some stages where a powerful gust of wind blows Mario either to the left or right (I am not making this up), and there are even warp zones that take you backwards (I'm not making that up either). It gets especially difficult on World 4-1.

4. Mega Man 2

Two words: Quick Man. That's all you need to know. They make the rest of the game easy, but Quick Man's stage is harder than anything else. And if you die, you lose all your E-Tanks. That sucks even worse.

3. Mega Man 3

I would rather drink my pee than play this game again. The game was actually good up until I had to do those second version of the Robot Masters' stages where you fight those robots that mimic the MM2 Robot Masters. Not only do you not have a Time Stopper or Metal Blade, they are harder to avoid since they are bigger than the actual Robot Masters they mimic, especially the ones in the second Shadow Man stage.

2. Mega Man 1

This game was so hard. You can't slide, and you can't charge up your Mega Buster. I also figured out that Mega Man doesn't exactly stop on a dime when you let go of the Control Pad (he goes a teensy bit farther after you let go) which really sucks. The Rock Monster was so freakin' hard that I couldn't beat him without the Select trick. If you can somehow prove that you can beat the Rock Monster without using it, then I'll just call you a liar. Liar! LIAR!!!!

1. Garfield no Isshukan (A Week of Garfield)

Remember when I said that I would drink my own pee than play Mega Man 3? Maybe I should have used that for this craptacular excuse for a game. This Famicom game was one of the worst ever. This game is so hard, it gives Action 52 and Heroes of the Lance a run for their money. You don't have sort of temporary invincibility whatsoever when you get hit, so even the simplest enemies will kill you in 5 seconds flat. There are also hidden powerups that kill you if you happen to make them pop up by touching them or swiping your claws to reveal them. You also have to swipe your claws just to find a key that unlocks the door in front you, which takes forever.
