The nes scene was a big part of my life when I was in high school. As it stands I am probably the oldest member of it. I started in 1997 when things were relatively new, and have seen alot of changes for the better and worse. Here is a recap of what has happened.

1995

The Internet is a new creation for the public.

NES World is created, which officially starts the history of the NES Scene.

1996

March - tsr's NES Archive is born. It is the first English site to cover both the NES and Famicom.

1997

The NES Scene is born with the ever growing popularity of The NES Nation helping it along the way. Spazzoid's NES Stuff, 8-Bit Extreme, and 8N! help pioneer the NES scene by building a stronger following of the everyday fan.

Tons of sites start popping up. Most of them don't make it past a week.

Planet Brinstar opens as the first nes hosting service. The fee is $8 a month.

The NES Wormhole and the nintendo old skool bring the idea of the alternative NES site to the scene. They are both extremely popular.

The first NES domain site is launched at nes-online.com. The site is updated daily.

The NES Triforce is started.

1998

The NES Nation changes webmasters twice.

The NES BBS is launched by Hayabusa and Octopooki. It is meant to keep unruley posters from ruining the fun.

The second NES domain site is started at nesii.com. It lasts a little less than a week.

The NES Nation is mysteriously hacked. Everyone is outraged. Spofforth says the site will come back soon.

#nes98 is started on EFnet and later moves to DALnet. It develops quite a number of chatters.

the nintendo old skool is taken off the internet, but later comes back as Old Skool Uncut.

NES Times (Fortune City, so not to be confused with the Silius site of the same name) is created.

neshq.com (phifey's site not the new one) is started.

the-nothing, a site many NES sites were hosted from, goes down.

nesco, an all nes hosting site, is started by blienk.

nesii² is opened. It lasts about a week.

The NES BBS is killed.

1999

#nes98 decides whether or not they change their name to #nes99. They later leave the name unchanged.

Dark Warrior leaves #nes98 to start #nesshrine.

#nesshrine and #nes98 have flame war after flame war.

Brinstar starts hosting all the big NES sites, but is later completely deleted. With this act, Spazzoid's NES Stuff, 8-bit Extreme, and other great sites were wiped of the net.

nesco. goes down.

The NES BBS comes back, but is not nearly as popular as it had been.

iodized and darkstar are opened.

tsr's NES Pit is opened.

tha nes smackdown is born

#nes98 dies.

Spofforth quits, leaving Quizzle and noneno the webmasters of The NES Nation.

May 7: The rumours of the third tape are finally confirmed, as the video shows Kessler beating it in 5:13.
