Known Record: SMB beaten in 5:22
can you beat it faster?
Although beating SMB in under six minutes is pretty hard, it isn't impossible. I have beaten SMB in 5:48 warping, and 19:36 without warping. The record is 5:22, but the lowest possible time is 5:09. If you follow these tips, you might be able to beat it.

| The key to beating the game fast is running. Hold down that B button like it is your best friend. RUN RUN RUN! Grab the first mushroom in level 1-1, as fast as you can. Then keep going. | Take the 4th pipe into the coin room to save time. The perfect time for reaching the coin room is 380. The perfect time for leaving the coin room is 375. The perfect time for beating this level is 370. |

| As soon as level 1-2 starts, grab the fire plant and take off running. Don't stop until you reach the blocks before the two turtles are. Break the blocks and get on top, RUN RUN RUN until you reach the end of the level where you can warp. | Warp to level 4 and hurry the fuck up. You should be done with this one in about 35 seconds. |

| In level 4-1 all you need to worry about is speed. Just run as fast as you can, and never stop along the way for anything. When you need to jump over the pipes, and plants come out just use a trusty fireball to get rid of them. Finish the level. This one should also take you about 30 seconds. | In level 4-2, do not waste time jumping from ledge to ledge at the beginning, just jump strait to the second one and keep going. |

| Use the warp after the bar lifts, and use it to warp to level 8-1. Don't waste time trying to jump backwards and land on the block. Stand at the edge of the lower block and hop backwards. This level should take you less than 15 seconds. | The only key element after this is speed. Just run through the next 4 levels as fast as possible, and you might make it. When you get to 8-4 take the pip right after you ride the bar accross the lava. |

| Next take the pipe by the two goombas. Don't waste your time killing them, just og as fast as you could. | After you run through the fish, take the pipe by the lava pit. This will take you through a water level. Swim as fast as possible, and try to avoid getting hit by the fire. |

| When you get to Koopa don't bother trying to avoid getting hit by him. Just run straight at him. If you get hit you will trun into little Mario, but the 5 seconds of invinsibility will kick in and you should be able to jump on the axe and destroy Koopa. |
Check your watch. How did you you? If you did well you might want to consider trying to beat the game as little Mario. You will go faster, but it will be harder. If your time was over six minutes you should try again. It took me hundreds of trys to get my best time.
