Thats right. Twent-four straight hours of NES. No sleep, no breaks, just gaming. Is there a better way to spend a Thursday? This is the log of what happened during my longest gaming session ever. I paused only to switch games, go to the bathroom, and log what was happening here. So here it is smackdown gt's first feature 24 hours of NES.

7:00 am
I woke up and went to school.

11:00 am
After four hours of listening to Economics mumbo jumbo, it was time to go home and start the challenge. I stopped by the store and got the necessary supplies: a 24 pack of Cherry Coke, beef jerky, fritos, some candy bars and what no NES gaming session should go without, Oreo cookies. With all this in order I headed home to start the challenge.

12:00 pm
And so the gaming begins. I figured I would start with a classic, so I chose Super Mario Bros. to be the opening game.

12:15 pm
Well that was certianly fun. I beat both quests of Super Mario Bros. So it was time to pick another game. Why not choose another classic, Kung Fu.

12:45 pm
Ok Kung Fu was beaten. I thought aboutdoing the e trick where you beat the game 50 times and get to fight the girl but I think that would have been a major test of my sanity, so I changed games. I thought I had better go for something a bit harder this time like Bump 'n Jump. Bring it on you reckless drivers.

1:00 pm
Man I really sucked at this game. I used to be pretty good at it. Getting past level 3 with all the lakes was really hard for me this time around. I died like 5 times. I finally got past it though, as it was rather easy my 6th try. I even killed 31 cars and hit the chick at the end for the bonus. Sweet. Level four gave me no problem, but I hit a building on level 5, and had to start over once again. So about 10 minutes later I got back to level 5 and passed it my first try. The buildings were kinda tricky but I managed not to hit them. However, I kept messing up on the last jump of the sixth stage. By this time I was getting pretty sick and tired of this game.

1:30 pm
Bump 'n Jump was pissing me off, so I decided to switch games. I left this one up to chance. I closed my eyes and reached into my big ass box of NES games. Out of the 178 NES games I own, I had to pick Jaws. I put the game in and started playing and I'm glad I did. Cuz now I remember why I hated Jaws so much in the first place. The random encounters were driving me crazy, but I continued playing. I got to power level 5 and recieved the submarine, which only took about 20 minutes. Then it was time for the painstaking procedure of shooting Jaws two million times before he finally ALMOST dies. Having this done, it was time to hit Jaws with the mast of the boat. Anyone who has ever played Jaws knows this is the hardest part of the game. I never EVER EVER EVER manage to do this my first try, but I got lucky and hit Jaws with my second strobe, beating the game. What a crappy ending it had to. A helicopter flies off and Jaws sinks to the bottom of the ocean. Of course it takes like 30 minutes to beat the game, so I guess it doesn't deserve that great an ending.

2:00 pm
With another game under my belt it was time to continue the quest. Being as lady luck screwed me over last time, I chose the next game myself. I decided since I made myself sit through Jaws, I should play a game I liked alot, so I of course chose...STAR TROPICS 2. Beating this game was no big deal since I have played it so much in the past. Still took me awhile though. About an hour and a half after I started I had beaten another game to add to today's list.

3:30 pm
3 1/2 hours into the challenge and I was still going strong. Already having four completed games under my belt I decided to choose something I had never really played. I flipped through my large stack of games and came upon Marble Madness. I remembered playing that about 10 years ago over at my neighbors house, so I stuck it in. I only played this game about 15 minutes. I thought it was a good idea, just not my idea of fun. COntrolling the marbles was too frusterating.

3:45 pm
I decided I wanted to complete all three Super Mario games in this challenge, so I started playing Super Mario Bros. 2. I didn't have much trouble getting through this one. I remembered all the warps, so it didn't take long. Super Mario Bros. 3 gave me a little more trouble cuz I decided not to use the whistles. It took alot longer, but I've played it so much I could beat it blindfolded.

5:00 pm
What are the three worst words in the English Language? The Karate Kid. I decided to play this one because I wanted to see the gay ending again where Mr. Myagi sexually winks at you. Level 1 was a joke. Level 2 wasn't very hard either. Then I got to level 3 where the frickin wind blows you into everything. I hate that level alot, but not quite as much as the next one. After finally overcoming the the shitty control I had to deal with, it was on to the fourth and final level. That level is the worst of any game ever. A bunch of Chozen's cronies run at you with long spears that are impossible to dodge. After steadily avoiding what I could, I made it to the end of the game and beat Chozen. It was all worth it to see that gay ending again.

5:30 pm
I called Dominos and ordered a pizza. I was starting to get a little tired of sitting there, so I put in World Class Track Meet. I plugged in my power pad and went to work. About thirty minutes into it, the doorbell rang. I got my pizza, and switched the game to Duckhunt. One of the only games I could think of that you could play with only one hand. So I ate my pizza and shot many, many ducks. I honestly was starting to lose focus of the NES.

6:15 pm
I kept on thinking about the Ninja Turtles so I put in TMNT. I have never been able to beat this game and I probably never will, but I figured I could see how far I could get. My first game through I died trying to disarm the bombs. No suprise there as it has only happened 789079084 times. My second time through I managed to disarm all the bombs, and got to the part where you are driving around the turtle van. This is usually as far as I can ever go. Needless to say, I dided soon.

7:00 pm
Man, about this time I was getting kinda sick of playing video games. Seven hours is a long time to do one thing. My quest had to go on though. I threw 3D Worldrunner into my NES and started playing. I love that game, but it was still boring me. Thankfully, klepto came to the rescue. He came by about 7:30 and stayed until 10:30. He and I conquered Double Dragon and Double Dragon 2, then we kicked ass at Crash and the Boys: Street Challenge.

10:30 pm
Well, Klepto had to leave so it was just me and my NES again. I needed to relax. I put in Tetris. I played five games out of which my highest score was 112 lines, of which I am kinda proud.

11:15 pm
I was pretty bored about this time. Just for kicks I put in Sesame Street 1-2-3, and messed around with it. Seems like I remember that game being a whole lot more interesting back when I was a little kid.

11:30 pm
Now I wasn't just bored. I was fucking bored. I love playing video games, but eleven hours is a lot of time to spend doing anything. This was also about the time my NES started messing up pretty bad. None of my games would work. The thing was kinda hot to, not as hot as I would have thought it would be though. So, I did the only thing I could do. I turned it off, and let it cool down. I didn't want to quit the challenge tho, so I opened NESticle and started playing some roms. I played mostly weird Japanese games I had never heard of before. I also played Contra for a little while without the 50 man code. I never really liked that game. I know everyone loves it, but I always thought it was overrated.

12:45 am
I figured it was time to see if my NES was done acting up, so I put in Zelda and after a few minutes of blowing and cleaning, it started working again. I pulled out my Nintendo Power Zelda walkthrough and map, and proceeded to beat boThis made me pretty happy.

2:30 am
My mom realized I'd been playing Nintendo for thirteen hours and came and yelled at me. She got up for some reason and walked into my room kinda pissed off, telling me to turn the tv down. I swear, she couldn't hear me if I screamed into a megaphone placed right up against her ear, but if my TV is on she hears it.

2:35 am
Back to business. I put in Codename: Viper and played it for awhile. I didn't beat it, I was kinda lackidazical about even playing it. What an average game. There was about 15 minutes here that I can't even account. I just kinda stared at the screen for a little while.

3:15 am
I started thinking about games I have never beaten that I have always wanted to, so I picked the top one on my list, Mike Tyson's Punchout. This game always gave me trouble. I flew past the firt few fighters, and after a couple tries beat King Hippo. Great Tiger and Bald Bull gave me alot of trouble. I died over and over again. Finally after much hardship, I made it to Mike Tyson. And he beat the shit out of me. But then the second time! He beat the shit out of me. But after six tries, I finally got the rhythm down and took that braindead rapist down. "I've never seen such finger speed before." - Mike Tyson

6:00 am
The sun come up and I was very tired. I got up and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked like a zombie. I put in N.A.R.C. The shoot 'em up game about Narcodic cops. This game is pretty easy until it comes to that bastard Mr. Big. I must have shot him 5000 times before he finally died. I couldn't believe it. I kept hitting him, and hitting him, over and over again, but he would not die. It of course had another shitty ending. Why do all NES games have sorry endings?

8:00 am
I'll be honest. I was sick of playing NES. I never wanted to play it again. I would have rather been doing anything else, but playing NES. But I only had a few more hours left. I didn't really care what I played, so I put in the dumbest and easiest game I own, Rampage. Rampage is one of the worst game ever made. I died like 100 times, cuz I wasn't paying attention, but it didn't matter cuz you are brought right back to life. After two gruesome hours the game was over. And after all my work all I got was "Congratultions." What an ending.

10:00 am
My mom and dad left for work. My mom came in again, and I pretended to be asleep so she would leave me alone. I was soooo tired. You know that feeling you get when you stay up all night, and you keep going. I had that bad. I played a few games during this period. Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure was the first one. Great movie, terrible videogame. I tried 10 Yard Fight for a little while. That game really sucks. I decided to stick with Mega Man 6, which I played for awhile, but couldn't beat. I think I was just too bored, and too tired to really concetrate.

11:30 am
Thirty more minutes and I could get some sleep. I was kinda excited. I wanted to beat one last game before the challenge ended, so I picked the game I started with, Super Mario Bros. I took my time and went through level by level at a steady pace. Then paused the game at 11:55. At 12:00 I unpaused, defeated bowser, and completed the game.

12:00 am
IT WAS FINALLY OVER! 24 straight hours of NES, the challenge was completed. It was time to get some sleep!
