: tengen tetris :

Everyone's played Nintendo's Tetris which features one player with pastel colors. But did you know there's
another version of Tetris that came out before Nintendo's? Tengen, (Atari), put out a carbon copy of their arcade Tetris, including the original colors, soundtrack and one thing Nintendo left out: a two-player, head-to-head mode (although a two player mode, of sorts, was
available on Nintendo's version with the use of the game genie).
But, Tengen's version was pulled from the shelves as a result of a lawsuit. Atari thought they had full rights to the game, but Nintendo had negotiated rights
separately with the Russian creator. Nintendo quickly had the Tengen version removed from the market and replaced
it with their own game.
When you see this advertised as *rare* keep in mind that this isn't entirely true. Plenty of these games are
available, they're just a little hard to find sometimes.
