  • In my opinion the Startropics series is the best game series on the NES. The games had everything you could hope for in a NES game. Good graphics, good story, and lots of hours of entertainment.

One day in the third grade I was sitting at my desk reading a Nintendo Power magazine. Startropics had just come out and was that month's cover story. I read all about the game, and thought it sounded really interesting, but alas had no money to buy it. D: Flash forward to seven years later and I'm just starting to learn how to drive. It's a saturday afternoon and my mom takes me out for a lesson and I drive to Toys R Us. We get up there and I go to the "R" Zone and look through the games, and in the very back I find a brand new copy of Zoda's Revenge for only one dollar! I of course bought it along with a sealed copy of Mega Man 6. I opened the game in the car and looked through the manual and the special note, and one again, I thought the game looked pretty interesting. The rest of the ride home I thought about the article I had read about the first Startropics seven years earlier. So I get home and put in the game, and within the first hour I realize, "hey this game is awesome." I played and played and played. I got really frusterated sometimes because of the insane jumps, but I kept on going. I got stuck in the castle towards the end for awhile, but I didn't give up and finally after many many hours I had beat the game.

Later, I found the original Startropics, new in the box for $4 at another Toys R Us, and began playing that one. Once again I fell in love, and played until the end. These two games were a huge part of why I got into NES collecting.
